[inspic=2,left,fullscreen,thumb]Wigston based coach operator Woods Coaches have won another prestigious award at the National Coach Tourism Awards evening held recently at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
The company have now won the coveted Day Excursions Programme of the Year 2007, after facing fierce national competition. Two years ago, Woods walked away with Coach Operator of the Year in the category for 11-30 vehicles.
This is quite an achievement for a company that was established in 1950 with only one vehicle. It now employs 99 staff, and runs a fleet of 16 coaches plus 29 mini-buses operating services around the county.
The judges were particularly impressed with the different types of excursions available including the modern Fun 4 U! brand aimed specifically at children, and Citycoach for people wanting simpler, lower costing days out. Woods Coaches also now run excursions from Hinckley and the surrounding area as well as their traditional Leicester to South Wigston route.
Managing Director, Kevin Brown said, “We are delighted to have picked up an award for our excursions programme. This is something that we work very hard at, running over 550 days out each year, making us one of the largest day excursion operators in the UK. We try to ensure that there is something to suit all tastes and pockets for the people of Leicester. Our dedicated and professional team here go to great lengths to organise and co-ordinate the excursions and this award is a great accolade for all of them.”
Marketing Manager, Alison Trunkfield agreed that the firm’s 16,000 local customers have helped to make the firm the success that it is. “We have worked hard to make it easy for customers to book our trips, including redesigning our excursions brochure and introducing a new online booking facility which allows clients to choose their seats and print off their own travel tickets. We have had some very positive feedback to these changes and as a result, our bookings have increased.”
The company has no intention of resting upon its laurels and plans to now introduce a new programme of day trips to many of the top London Shows. These will include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and Grease which are featured on Saturday night reality shows – putting the demand for these tickets at an all time high. “We are able to secure tickets for many of the popular shows at special group rates,” explained Kevin. “This coupled with coach transport often makes the total package cheaper than if you tried to book everything yourself and of course it is far more convenient than driving yourself. We hope that these will prove successful for us during the rest of the year.”
