The Floralies of Ghent takes place once every five years at the Flanders Expo in Gent just a short distance away from Brussels. The first exhibition took place in a pub in 1809 where 49 plants competed for the honour of being named the loveliest plant. 200 years later the Royal Agriculture and Horticulture Society will host the 34th event. Boasting more than 4.5 hectares of botanical beauties, making it the largest in the world. This flower and plant exhibition showcases some of the finest green treasures there are.
The Carpet of Flowers in Brussels takes place once every other year. The first Carpet of Flowers event was created in 1971 on the Grand-Place by the landscape architect E. Stautemans. Since then E. Stautemans, has been asked to replicate the Carpet of Flowers all over the world. In the words of E. Stautemans himself, “Nowhere is the carpet more beautiful and distinguished than in the unique, ancient surroundings of the Grand-Place in Brussels”. With planning and preparations usually beginning a year in advance each carpet is uniquely spectacular, the 16th Carpet of flowers promises to be no different. Come and see the finished result.
