Grand UK Holidays Marks Wartime Anniversaries With New 2014 Tours

Grand UK Holidays is marking the centenary of the outbreak of World War One with new escorted tours to Belgium and France in its summer 2014 brochure.

The over-55s specialist has also added a tour to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings, while another new holiday – ‘Cambridge, Duxford & Bletchley Park’ – explores the world of the famous World War Two code-breakers.

The operator’s escorted coach tours marking the 100th anniversary of the start of the Great War take holidaymakers to the fields of Flanders and the Somme.

‘In Flanders Fields, We Will Remember Them’ commemorates the battles of Flanders and the Ypres Salient, and pays a visit to the recently refurbished In Flanders Fields Museum.

‘Remembrance on the Western Front’ also visits the In Flanders Fields Museum, as well as the battlefields of the Somme, Arras, Vimy Ridge and the museum at Peronne.

World War Two
For those interested in World War Two history, ‘Bournemouth and D-Day’ offers the chance to see UK sites associated with the D-Day landings of June 1944.

The escorted tour includes trips to see the command post at Southwick House, the D-Day Museum in Portsmouth, and other key locations in Weymouth and Portland.

The interest in World War Two has led to the introduction of another new holiday – ‘Cambridge, Duxford & Bletchley Park’ – which explores the world of the famous wartime code-breakers as well as the Imperial War Museum Duxford.

The top-secret work carried out at Bletchley Park proved instrumental in the success of the D-Day landings.

Also popular with Grand UK Holidays’ customers is our ‘Battle of Britain’ tour, which visits several sites associated with Bomber Command in Lincolnshire during World War Two.

As well as tours to places such as Thorpe Camp, which commemorates 617 Squadron – the Dambusters – the holiday includes an evening talk from a local aviation historian.
