Coachholidays.com wish you a Happy Chinese New Year 2015 which is ‘San Nin Faai Lok’ in Cantonese and ‘Xin Nian Kuai Le’ in Mandarin!
2015 is the Year of the Goat or the Year of the Sheep and it is the longest and most important holiday in China. The Chinese New Year or Spring Festival, is a yearly event based on the Luna calendar and therefore falls on a different date each year. Celebrations to mark the holiday usually begin on the last day of the previous year until the 15th day of the New year which then marks the beginning of the Lantern Festival.
Each New Year is determined by the Chinese lunar calendar which is intrinsically linked with the Chinese zodiac and features 12 animal character star signs – Dog, Dragon, Goat, Horse, Monkey, Ox, Pig, Rabbit, Rat, Rooster, Snake and Tiger. Each Chinese zodiac star sign signifies a new year in a 12-year sequence, so as we move from the year of the horse to the year of the goat we wonder, what’s your sign and how does it influence you?
