Government To Give Millions For The Regeneration Of English Seaside Resorts

SeasideUnder the Sea Change initiative the government has promised £45 million to help regenerate England’s once thriving seaside towns. The first resorts to be allocated funds were announced recently by the Culture Secretary, Andy Burnham. Blackpool, Dover and Torbay will be the first towns to receive up to £4 million of goverment funding through the scheme together with up to 12 other seaside towns who will also receive smaller grants this year.

The Sea Change programme will place culture at the heart of this regeneration by investing in public space, arts, cultural assets and heritage projects to bring a sense of pride, enjoyment and celebration.

Blackpool Veterans Week to celebrate, honour and unite all who served

From 21st to 29th June 2008 Blackpool is the meeting place for veterans from all over the UK. Events held throughout the week are designed to entertain young and old and bring together Veterans of all ages.

Events include:

Military Exhibition and Flying Displays 21-22 June - Promenade
Spitfire, hurricane and hawk will display aerobatic skill, the RAF Falcons drop in, in graceful parachute formation and the Royal Marines recreate a spectacular amphibious attack on Blackpool’s beach.

Passengers’ Pulse Rates Monitored To Test Four Modes of Transport

In what is believed to be the first experiment of its type in the UK, Leger Holidays, in conjunction with leading travel trade publication TTG, has used digital monitors to test passengers travelling on four modes of transport to find out which offers the most and least stress-free travel.

Participants in the experiment, four female travel agents and their families, used digital blood pressure monitors to record their pulse rates in a diary every 30 minutes while travelling to Disneyland Resort Paris from the UK.

Findings show that, comparing the initial pre-journey reading, and then looking at each subsequent 30-minute reading, the mode of transport which showed the pulse rate decreasing most consistently hour-by-hour was coach. The indication being that the coach passenger was becoming more relaxed and less stressed than the other three passengers.
